RESEARCH: WHY BELONGING MATTERS
"True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world."

Research by Brown and colleagues found that belonging — not fitting in — is the most fundamental human need. Children who feel they belong in a group show significantly higher engagement, resilience, and prosocial behavior. Fitting in requires changing yourself; belonging requires the group to accept who you are. Hero Camps is built around belonging.

RESEARCH: POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Richard Lerner's 5 Cs of Positive Youth Development — Competence, Confidence, Connection, Character, and Caring — are the same outcomes Perfectly Me programs are designed to build. Research shows that structured programs that explicitly teach values through activity (not just lecture) produce measurable gains in all five dimensions. That's exactly what the HeroValues framework does.

RESEARCH: WHY EXPLICIT VALUES EDUCATION WORKS
CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) meta-analyses of 213 school-based SEL programs found that programs explicitly naming and teaching social-emotional competencies produced an 11-percentile-point gain in academic achievement — and significantly reduced behavioral problems. The key ingredient: named, repeated, observable values that adults model and students practice. Sound familiar? That's the HeroValues framework.
