Heroes Don't Clock Out at 5 PM: Introducing the Hero Camps HeroValues Tracker

As of this summer, every family enrolled in a Hero Camps program will receive a unique link to the new Hero Camps HeroValues Tracker — a free digital app built to bring camp's character lessons home. When your camper shows kindness, courage, gratitude, or any of our 12 HeroValues outside of camp, you tap a button, and one of our Perfectly Me SuperHeroes cheers them on in real time.

Here's what it is, why we built it, and how your family can start using it this summer.

What Is the HeroValues Tracker?

When a Hero Camps camper earns a purple band at camp, it means a counselor saw a moment of courage, named it, and marked it. Multiply that across the 12 HeroValues we teach — Kindness, Patience, Gratitude, Listening, Respect, Responsibility, Creativity, Perseverance, and more — and over a summer, every camper wears the proof of their character.

But camp is six hours of a child's day. The other eighteen at the kitchen table, in the car, at bedtime are where those lessons either take root or fade. The HeroValues Tracker closes that gap.

When your camper does something kind or brave at home, you open the app and tap the matching value. A celebration fires, the corresponding SuperHero cheers them on by name, and the moment is captured. By Friday, your family has a visual record of the week, you sign off in the app, and counselors reward campers accordingly at pickup.

HeroValues Tracker Features: What Makes It Different

It's interactive. Parents and kids can open it together at home or on the go and checking in becomes a family ritual.

It's built for Hero Camps, not borrowed from somewhere else. Every value and character comes straight from our own curriculum and comics, so the app feels like camp continuing at home.

Lost-link recovery is built in. Switch phones, clear your browser, lose the link — reopen it, enter your unique code, and pick up right where you left off.

The bar is realistically low. One tap during the week plus a parent sign-off qualifies a camper for the Friday prize. We're celebrating that the conversation happened, not demanding perfection.

Real-time celebration. Each tap brings confetti, a personalized cheer from the matching SuperHero, and a glowing tile — instant recognition of a job well done.

Repeat acts get extra love. Multiple taps in a day deepen the tile's color, add a "×3" badge, and trigger fresh cheers from characters like Captain Kid Kindness.

A leveling-up system. Campers progress through the week from Hero → SuperHero → Legend → Role Model, with a different SuperHero — Maya the Squad Leader, Zoe the Courageous, Captain Kid Kindness, and Casey the Connector — welcoming them at each rank.

Customizable for your family. A Bonus Home Hero Moments section lets families add up to four of their own values, like "Helping with Dishes" or "Reading Before Bed."

Why "Hero Days," Not "Perfect Days"

The app counts a Hero Day as one where a camper shows 4 or more HeroValues at home and we chose that language deliberately. We're not measuring perfection; we're celebrating progress. No camper "fails" because life got busy. Every Hero Day, and every single tap, is a real win.

This is also why the tracker isn't a report card. There's no leaderboard, no comparison between families, no judgment of parenting. What matters is the conversation and recognition of a parent noticing a moment of kindness, naming it, and tapping a button. That conversation is the work. The Friday prize just closes the loop.

The Psychology Behind the Repetition

Every tap counts, and repetition is the point. A child praised for kindness once on Tuesday gets a cheer from Captain Kid Kindness. Praised again that day, a "×2" appears with a fresh message. By the third tap the tile glows orange; by the fifth, gold.

This gamification is  rooted in developmental psychology. Kids who hear "you're kind" repeatedly, in the moment, start to internalize it as part of who they are. When that recognition comes from a SuperHero they already love from camp, it lands even faster. A child told they're brave, again and again, grows into a brave adult.

A Four-Year Journey: How the Tracker Came to Be

This idea started in 2022, when our founder Raquel Whiting Gilmer first imagined an interactive tool families could open together and watch their week light up with character moments. Early developer quotes started at $10,000 and climbed from there — out of reach for a small business running on passion and a personal credit card.

So we kept going with what we had. For years, campers went home with a printed SuperValues Tracker, a weekly checklist parents filled in and returned by Friday. It sparked great conversations, but trackers got lost on the ride home, crumpled in backpacks, or filled out hastily Friday morning.

Two summers ago, a generous parenting-app partner opened their platform to Hero Camps families for free and built out our HeroValues curriculum on their backend. About 20% of families adopted it and loved having tracking on their phones, but 80% didn't engage, because the tool lived outside our community and wasn't tied to our SuperHeroes or Friday prizes.

Those two lessons — digital solves the lost-paper problem, but the tool has to feel native to Hero Camps — shaped everything we built next. This year, new AI tools made it possible to design and build that tool ourselves at a fraction of the original cost, working with Claude (an AI system from Anthropic) to design every screen and cheer, with a trusted friend handling the technical setup.

Four years after the idea first took shape, it's finally real.

Hero Camps Summer 2026 Pilot Program

This summer's launch is a pilot serving roughly 400 families across eight weeks of camp programming. Our goal is to dramatically beat the 20% adoption rate from our earlier digital experiment, with daily, delighted use across our community. If the pilot validates what we believe, we'll scale up for Summer 2027 with a long-term vision of bringing the full Perfectly Me universe to families everywhere, even those who can't attend camp in person.
