How Three Campers Turned a Bracelet Business into a Movement

This summer, three of our heroes — Rebecca (9), Charlotte (8), and Flourie (8) — have turned creativity and compassion into a mission to help other Perfectly Me campers. When they heard about our Community Connection project to collect snack donations for our Community Camp in West Baltimore, they didn’t wait for someone else to step in. Instead, they launched a social enterprise to raise money for the snack drive — one bracelet at a time.
Their idea? Make and sell handmade bracelets and keychains in custom colors, sold to fellow campers, staff, and community members. They call themselves “The Bracelet Trio” and every bracelet sold goes toward the Summer Snack Drive to support kids in our neighboring camp—campers they’ve never met, but who they care about deeply. They know how much a snack means during a long, hot camp day. And they believe every camper deserves that same energy boost and joy.
When other campers at Roland Park learned of their project, they pitched in to make flyers, take orders, and cheer on the girls as they produced these colorful bracelets in their workshop to keep up with demand.
Fueled not just by fun, but by purpose.
Now in their fourth summer at camp, these service-minded campers are showing what leadership looks like at any age. What started as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful way to give back and uplift others in their community. What makes this story so special isn’t just the bracelets. It’s what they represent. Our campers didn’t wait for permission or recognition to take action—they just did the thing. And their peers rallied right alongside them—helping make signs, encouraging sales, and celebrating each order along the way.
At Perfectly Me, we believe leadership isn’t about age or titles—it’s about action rooted in kindness. That’s exactly what Rebecca, Charlotte, and Folurie have shown. They’ve taken what they’ve learned at camp—how to work as a team, how to care for others, how to take action when something feels unfair—and used it to build something real.
Because when kids are given the space to grow, the tools to lead, and a community that believes in them, they don’t just rise to the occasion—they inspire everyone around them.
Why Service Sparks Growth
Research shows that children are naturally inclined toward empathy and helping behaviors—even from a very young age. According to Harvard’s Making Caring Common Project, when kids are given the chance to engage in acts of kindness or service, it strengthens their sense of purpose, belonging, and emotional resilience. Service isn’t just about doing good—it’s a powerful developmental tool. It helps kids see themselves as capable, connected, and responsible members of their community.
When they recognize a need, like our campers did, they often respond instinctively—with compassion and action. That’s why at Perfectly Me, we intentionally create space for kids to notice, care, and take action. We don’t just talk about empathy—we build it into everything we do.
Whether it’s through Community Connection projects, or everyday moments at camp, we’re helping kids practice what it means to lead with kindness. Because when we nurture empathy early, we empower kids to grow into thoughtful, courageous, and compassionate leaders—the kind who don’t just see problems, but step up to solve them.
